SIHH is around the corner and we are beginning to witness a host of new timepieces being showcased ahead of time. Jaeger-LeCoultre has announced a deluxe iteration of one of its most popular models, the Master Ultra Thin Moon. First introduced in 2012 with galvanic finish dials, the new Master Ultra Thin Moon has been upgraded with a deep blue flinqué enamel dial, in a limited edition of just 100 pieces.
Highly recognizable for its subtle aesthetic codes, the Ultra Thin range of the Master collection continues to exhibit the exquisite roundness and dedication to details. This watch features a dial that is completely executed by hand by a few artisans trained in Le Sentier, where the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture is located. The Master Ultra Thin Moon Enamel has a white gold 39mm case that is only 10.04mm in height, hence the ‘Ultra Thin’ designator. Inside, we find the JLC Calibre 925/2 movement. An automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve and, of course, the moonphase complication.
This version features a new hand-guilloché enamel dial, new longer hour-markers, and a new polished moon that, when full, sits against a starry sky. The watch is also equipped with a new engraved counter that displays the numerals for the date in a visually appealing easy-to-read manner. Flinqué enamel is a combination of enamelling and engine-turning. The dial base is first engraved with a guilloche pattern the traditional way using a hand-operated rose engine – then painted with liquid enamel. It’s then fired in an oven to harden the enamel. Jaeger-LeCoultre remains one of the few Manufactures offering hand-made gem-setting, engraving, guillochage and enameling at its workshops, and this timepiece is representative of that fine craftsmanship.
